Breaking Bad - Final Episode

The final episode of this remarkable TV series, Breaking Bad, aired on Sept 30th.  Actually it was shown on a cable channel so it wasn't really "aired".  And, much of the viewing of the series was done over the internet - through he likes of Netflix and similar services and through rogue websites. If anything this makes the show more remarkable. Where the Sopranos of the preceeding decade marked the rise of cable over broadcast TV, Breaking Bad marks the rise of the internet over cable.

What I really enjoyed about the series was its risky and fresh story lines, dialog, action and characters. The main character, Walter White, is a 50 yr old high school chemistry teacher in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  A young junkie, Jesse Pinkman, becomes his unlikely partner. The two of them connect up with a seedy lawyer who teaches them how to deal with the law as well as with the competition in the street drug business. Mistakes are made, the main characters are generally likable, but they often do evil things and only sometimes do they come to regret the bad that they've done.

The final episode, compared with the final episodes of other popular series, was very refreshing.  It had its improbable, but very entertaining, events and twists and turns as were prevelant throughout the series.  The characters stayed in character and the loose ends were all tied up very nicely.  A most excellent ending to a very memorable story.
