Historically MIT has been strongly allied with large corporations and government. After all, MIT's purpose from its start was to the supply well trained engineers who would stream out from its halls to serve as tools for our corporations, our country, the world - much as trained soldiers are sent out out serve our country's military forces.
In this day and age it appears that an inordinate number of individuals, corporations and government officials are in pursuit of their own gain and/or gain of their cohorts and have little or no regard for humanity, our environment, our future.
I am disappointed that MIT does not take a leadership role in confronting, opposing and exposing such bad actors. I'd like to see MIT leaders take a strong stand against them.
A good start would be to develop and publish annually a ranking of individuals, corporations and government officials in accordance with their proven concern for humanity, our environment, our future. And then, each year, it would be nice to see MIT publicly denounce and sever ties with those near the bottom of the list.
