The 45th Presidency

The situation was a sociopath president elected by duped and mis-informed voters. And then, over the full four years of that president's term, 95%+ of Republican members of Congress kowtowing to that president. A very sad situation.

When it comes down to it, a democracy can be quite ugly and criminal when it has high level government officials who lack integrity and civility, who are deeply dishonest, who do not adhere to the basic tenets of the US Constitution.  

Some of the very ugly and criminal events under the 45th presidency:

• inhumane treatment of illegals coming across our southern border

• the president and his political party taking significant actions to diminish voting by minorities

• the president promoting, and often even initiating, untruths about COVID-19 and its treatment (to date, 0.27% of American lives have been lost to COVID-19 - the highest such number of all the industrialized nations)

• the president and his party denying climate change and its causes, and axing federal efforts that would help mitigate it

• the president abandoning our allies and embracing leaders of dictator nations 

• the president frequently, and in public settings, attacking with dehumanizing rhetoric and hatred those he disliked

• false claims by the 45th president that the 2020 presidential election was "stolen". And 95%+ of Republican Congressmen backing those claims or letting them stand. This despite solid factual proof to the contrary.    

• Numerous illegal and unconstitutional attempts by the president and his cohorts to overturn the election results. This culminated on Jan 6, 2021 with the president stirring up a mob that then stormed the US capitol building and threatened the lives of the Vice President and members of Congress.
