Peter Thiel

Peter Thiel is in the news today because, after 17 years, he is leaving his position on the board of Facebook (AKA Meta).

It seems he is a very complex as well as very accomplished person:

• several parallels to Elon Musk - US billionaire entrepreneur, spent a portion of his upbringing in Southern Africa, fan of science fiction, deeply involved with and made his first millions from PayPal;
• Thiel is gay, he married his long-time partner Matt Danzeisen in October 2017. They have a daughter;
• he was deeply involved with Facebook and made billions from that;
• he is a member of the Republican Party.^[11] He contributes to both Libertarian and Republican candidates and causes;
• he has his own political-action committee, Free Forever, which is committed to supporting political candidates who support stricter border control, restrictionist immigration policy, funds for veterans, and anti-interventionist foreign policy.

From what I've heard and read, I don't like his politics. It seems these may have been influenced by experiences in his early upbringing.
