Now, less than 2 months after the arrest and shutdown of The Silk Road, there is already a movie in the works. 5 Actors Who Could Play Ross Ulbricht in the Silk Road Movie.
The near end of the story is that Ross Ulbricht, aged 29, as the founder and owner of the notorious website The Silk Road, hired hit men to kill some who were extorting him. Apparently he got in so deep that he became one of the bad guys.
Ulbricht was originally from Texas where he attended the University of Texas at Dallas and studied physics. He went on to Penn State University where he earned a Masters Degree in Materials Science and Engineering with his thesis "Growth of EuO Thin Films by Molecular Beam Epitaxy". While at Penn State he was a member of the College Libertarian Group and became a politically active supporter of Ron Paul. Ulbricht moved to San Francisco in 2012.
Silk Road, which was run out of San Francisco, CA, proportedly sold anything and everything that could not be sold legally on ebay. Since its launch in Jan. 2011, feds claim the site took in over $1.2 billion in sales as a platform for vendors to peddle everything from heroin to hacking tools.
It seems the most serious crimes by Ulbricht arose when some silk road users tried extorting him and he allegedly responded by hiring other users as hit men to take out the threats.
