Kickstarter Project

I just got a heads up on "Hometown Sounds: The Locavaux Project".   Three people, Katie, Hallie and Chase, young artists who just graduated college, have an outrageous 50 day plan to drive a school bus across the country and back. The purpose of the trip to sample and document local live music at dozens of small towns along the way.

The three have put together a proposal for their project and are looking to raise funding  Find the details here.  I will pledge a donation - because the project sounds very worthwhile, the plan is outrageous, the trip will likely be great adventure and good fun, and I happen to know Chase. I encourage all who love music and adventure to donate to this worthy cause.  And then follow Katie, Hallie and Chase's (KH&Cs) project blog (there will be one right?) as their adventure unfolds.

Some basic info on Kickstarter, the website KH&C are using to raise their funds:

  • This from Wikipedia: Kickstarter is an American-based private for-profit company founded in 2009 that provides tools to raise funds for creative projects via crowd funding through its website.[1]Kickstarter has funded a diverse array of endeavors,[2] such as films, music, stage shows, comics, journalism, video games, and food-related projects.[3] People cannot invest in Kickstarter projects to make money. They can only back projects in exchange for a tangible reward or one-of-a-kind experience, like a personal note of thanks, custom T-shirts, dinner with an author, or initial production run of a new product.[4] Kickstarter takes 5% of the funds raised.[20]   more info from Wikipedia about Kickstarter
  • In 2012 2 million people pledged a total of $300,000,000 and successfully funded 18,000 projects
  • For a project to be successful it has to meet its minimum funding goal. The typical 30 to 60 day project probability for success is 30%. If the goal ($6000 for KH&C's project) is not met by the deadline, no funds are collected.
I think its pretty cool that companies like Kickstarter exist and that the creative and the Adventure Bound can so readily use them.
