State of the Union and Opposing View

My take away from last night's State of the Union Address, and the Opposing View:

In my opinion trying to launch the US into 4% economic growth would be a huge mistake. It would likely lead a repeat of the recent "great recession" (cause of the 2008 economic crash). In the 5 to 10 years preceeding the crash we promoted and we lived unsustainable economic growth. In the short term this seemed wonderful. In the longer term the price we paid was the 2007 to 2008 financial crash and then the low economic growth of the past 5 years. It makes no sense at all that an industrialized, mature developed country with <1% annual population growth should have economic growth rate of  > 3%.
